I can’t believe it is already February. Can you? This month I am going to participate in the One Monthly Goal (OMG) over at Red Letter Quilts. I pulled this quilt top from my pile of UFOs to complete this month. I wish I could get a little more excited about this quilt top. I created it years ago and I find that I can’t really love it. I’m not in love with the fabric or the style. It will most likely end up being a charity quilt for a toddler or lap. Like it or not, it is my February OMG. I hope you will join me over at Red Letter Quilts.
It’s been a while since I’ve been on the blog, but my heart has been with you all. I’ve been following your progress with envy. Things are changing at Darlington. I gave up the day job effective the end of 2015 and January has been full of quilting. You’ll see in a subsequent post that I am picking up where I left off. In January, I completed two quilts and a small wall hanging. Pictures of the quilts are forthcoming, but I thought I would share a glimpse of my wall hanging with you. Would you believe this is my first wall hanging? I’m not really a decorator, but I’ve decided this year I will add some quilty decor to the sewing room. The inspiration for this came from the Mighty Lucky challenge sponsored by Lucky Spool. The challenge in January was to use bias tape to create a project. Here is my project.
I experimented with various widths of bias tape and found that the smaller width tape was a little easier to manipulate than the wider widths. Unfortunately, I didn’t order the wonder under tape suggested by the expert. I think it would have helped enormously. Also, I washed the wall hanging after I completed it. Normally, I love the wrinkly texture of my quilts when I pull them out of the dryer, but I don’t know that I will wash wall hangings in the future. The stiffness of an unwashed project probably displays better on the wall. All in all, mighty lucky was a fun experiment, but I’m not sure I will be incorporating bias tape into a lot of projects in the future.
Stay tuned…I look forward to sharing my other January finishes with you later in the week and I’m diligently working on the Project Quilting challenge this month. The prompt this month is thread and I’m well on my way to completing a runner to submit to the challenge. I hope you will join me.
Welcome to my stop on the Grow Your Blog Party! I’m so happy you came. Special thanks to 2 Bags Full for organizing this amazing event and including me. My name is Kim and this is Darlington…
Darlington Delights is my little blog where I share our exploits with the world. Sometimes I may share a favorite recipe, sometimes I may share an area of the house undergoing a decoration upgrade and sometimes, I may just share my heart with you. Mostly, you will find me sharing my quilting adventures with you. I won’t keep you long today because I know you have a ton of other blogs to visit. Before you go, I hope you will take a few minutes to enter my giveaway.
I’m giving away a 12 piece bundle of Anna Horner’s Dowry on February 14. To enter the drawing leave a one word comment….any word you want. For additional entries follow me on bloglovin, Facebook, twitter or Pinterest and leave another one word comment indicating how you are following me. For example, if you follow me on pinterest and bloglovin, leave one comment that says bloglovin and another comment that says pinterest. That’s five chances to win.
Thanks for stopping by Darlington Delights. I hope you will come back again soon. In the meantime…hop back over to 2 Bags Full here to find the next blog to visit in the party.
2013 Lucky Stars Block
I am so excited this month. It’s a month of new beginnings and I am hopeful that I will live a balanced life this month that includes regular time in the sewing room! This month, for A Lovely Year of Finishes, I plan to catch up on the 2013 Lucky Stars BOM. I only have four completed, so I plan on creating eight more blocks in order to complete the 2013 blocks. I have decided to wait on putting them together though. At the end of this year, I will combine the 2013 and 2014 Lucky Stars into a huge quilt for a king size bed (crazy, I know!). The 2014 blocks look amazing and there’s still time to sign up at Don’t Call Me Betsy.
With any luck I also plan on linking up a finish this month with Such a Sew and Sew. I plan on starting and completing a Swoon wall hanging for my sewing room. (Fingers crossed on this one….I’m a slow quilter!)
Linking up with 2014 Lovely Year of Finishes at Fiber of All Sorts and Sew BitterSweet Designs. Have you seen the size of the goal setting party this month….It’s huge. Come join the fun. There’s always room for more!
There is a new blog hop and I am in! Madam Samm from Sew We Quilt and Carol at Just Let Me Quilt are hosting a Christmas in July/August Blog Hop. It’s called the Ho Ho Ho Blog Hop and I can hardly wait. I participated last year and made so many new friends. If you are a quilter looking to grow your blog, I highly encourage you to head over there and sign up, too. I’m off to start pulling my Christmas stash and brainstorm a new Christmas project. Stay tuned for more!
I had such a great time piecing this little beauty together. The pattern was designed by Kristy at Quiet Play. You can find the pattern here at Craftsy. She is an amazing designed and she has several new paper pieced designs coming out soon.
It is a 10 inch paper pieced pattern, but I wanted to make a hot pot holder so I scaled the pattern to 75%. For those of you mathmatically challenged, my final block is 8 inches unfinished or 7.5 inches finished. I need to grab some thread to match the body of the teapot and the handles before I can quilt it and finish the project, but I think I am off to a lovely start. What do you think?
I’m linking up with the “Paper Piecing Party” at Quiet Play and “It’s Saturday Sharing Day” at Pigtales and Quilts.
I am soooo behind on my lucky starts over at Don’t Call Me Betsy. Okay, if I’m really honest with you…I didn’t start working on them until this week. Here’s where I am so far.
